Newcastle United defender David Edgar admits it's exciting times for soccer in Canada thanks to Mo Johnston's Toronto FC.

"There are a lot of exciting things happening with Canadian soccer at the moment," Canada U20 captain Edgar told the Evening Chronicle.

"I support Toronto FC now for sure. I have a lot of friends who play for them and I keep in touch on the internet and on the phone.

"They are really enjoying playing in the Major League Soccer scene back home.

"I got the chance to train with them when I was back home to get my fitness levels up for the Under-20s and it is a great set-up.

"They have a good fan base and it is exactly what Toronto needed."
