Newcastle United won't be part of the scramble for Blackburn Rovers defender Christopher Samba.

The Evening Chronicle says United go into the January transfer window looking for a centre-back as cover for the injured Steven Taylor.

But Samba - who has also been linked with Tottenham - would be considered to be too old to fit into United's current policy and would also command wages of around £60,000-per-week.
