Newcastle winger Elliot Anderson scores again for Bristol Rovers

Newcastle winger Elliot Anderson continues to impress during his loan spell with Bristol Rovers.

The teenager scored again on Saturday to earn the Gas a vital point towards their promotion push.

Joey Barton's side were trailing at Tranmere Rovers when, in the 63rd minute, Anderson's wonderful touch allowed him to not only control Luca Hoole's looping header but also wrong-foot his marker sufficiently for him to be able to drill home with his left foot from 12 yards.

It was his fourth goal in 16 appearances for Rovers, who are sixth in League Two, and Barton said: "I challenged him, saying he needs to add that little final bit, the goals, and he's come up with a really good goal. It was a superb first touch and he managed to find lots of space in the box.

"That was due to his really good balance and footballing ability. Then he's still got a lot to do, but finishes with his weaker foot - if he has one."
