Newcastle United's pursuit of Marseille's Florian Thauvin appears to be in vain with the 22-year-old reportedly eager to stay put at the Stade Velodrome.

It is understood Newcastle are preparing to table a new bid for the rising star, after having their initial offer rebuffed.

However, French publication Maxifoot is reporting Thauvin is happy in France and has no intention of leaving Marseille for the Premier League club.

It remains to be seen whether Newcastle will be able to persuade Marseille and Thauvin to reconsider.
