Newcastle striker Wilson: Where Howe has changed since Bournemouth days

Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson admits manager Eddie Howe has changed from their days together at Bournemouth.

The pair worked together at Dean Court before Wilson was sold to Newcastle.

"He's changed," Wilson told the Monday Night Club. "Naturally he's evolved as a manager, his training sessions bizarrely having worked with him for that many years. I don't think there's that many sessions that I've done twice or three times, it's crazy to understand the mentality of him but he's always working hard, pushing players.

"Improving the likes of myself over the years, Sean Longstaff, Joelinton when he came through the door, Almiron - that's his forte what he's good at. Getting younger players and turning them into better players.

"I guess now is the only challenge he's got is a different dynamic of a squad, more rotation and greater depth.

"I'd say from when I first met the manager to now, first and foremost his formation has changed. He used to play 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1, now it's 4-3-3 but as you can imagine there's so many triggers, passing drills that you do to suit that formation.

"That's probably why, since he's joined Newcastle and adopted that formation, I've not done many of the sessions that he's bringing to the table. Obviously he has his core drills, his passing drills that you do now and again, his matchday minus one stuff, other than that, during the week we're working on new opposition and working on ways to hurt them.

"The training is to suit that game so every match is different."
