Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi is ready to declare himself for Nigeria.

The Sunday Mirror says Ameobi is poised to switch allegiance to Nigeria.

The Toon striker has won England U-21 caps, but never played for the senior side.

Ameobi is still eligible to play for his native Nigeria and new Super Eagles coach Samson Siasia has contacted the 29-year-old with a view to calling him up.
