Newcastle skipper Coloccini calm over new deal

Newcastle United captain Fabricio Coloccini will not rush into signing a new deal with the club.

The Magpies are keen to tie down the Argentine centre-half despite him having two years left on his current contract so they can ward off interest from the likes of Liverpool and Sevilla who have recently been linked with him.

But a source close to the 29-year old said he wants to continue focusing on what occurs on the pitch as Newcastle enjoy a brilliant run of form in the Premier League.

"Fabricio is happy at Newcastle. The next contract is going to be an important one for him and his family," the source told the Evening Chronicle.

"But he is happy to just stay firmly focused on playing football at the moment. It's all work in progress."
