Newcastle United has privately once again played down suggestions that Terry Venables could be brought in to lead the fight for survival.

Reports have suggested there have been calls from the dressing room for a senior figure to be brought in, but the hierarchy at St James' will stick with Hughton and coach Colin Calderwood with manager Joe Kinnear expected back from heart surgery in the middle of next month.
