Newcastle's Holland on verge of Dutch deal

Newcastle Jets midfielder James Holland is currently in Holland where he is on the verge of a deal with Dutch club AZ Alkmaar. The 19-year olds rise through the ranks has been meteoric since he debuted for the Jets last season.

He has represented Australia at three different age levels (Young Socceroos, Olyroos and senior Socceroos) and won last years A-League title with the Jets.

Now he is embarking on the next stage of his career which is believed to be a five-year deal with the Eredivisie club.

Holland was hopeful of his chances abroad and spoke to The Herald prior to leaving.

"You obviously set yourself goals," Holland said.

"You try not to put time limits on them.

"In saying that, it has come pretty quickly and I guess my goals have not come in order, but I'm not complaining.

"From what I have been told it is about 80 per cent done, so I still have to do well," he added.

"I arrive on Tuesday morning. I will train with the club and do a medical and take it from there."
