Newcastle United are rivaling Liverpool for Augsburg fullback Phillip Max.

The Evening Chronicle says Newcastle have joined the chase for the left-back.

New Toon boss Steve Bruce wants to sign a left-back and the Augsburg defender is one player who has been 'pushed to them'.

The Bundesliga side are said to want £18million for Max.

Liverpool see Max as a replacement for Alberto Moreno, now with Villarreal.
