Newcastle United are making a transfer move for Southampton midfielder Mario Lemina.

The Gabon international is on the transfer shortlist made up by the club's head of recruitment Steve Nickson.

The Magpies recruiting chief was at Craven Cottage in May to watch Lemina during his loan spell at Fulham last term.

Manager Steve Bruce wants depth added to his squad and Lemina can play multiple positions - defensive midfield and right back.

If he signed, Lemina would join a group of midfielders that includesShelvey, Isaac Hayden, Sean Longstaff and Jeff Hendrick.
