Phil Airey is determined to carve out a career at Newcastle United.
The teenager has revealed that Alan Pardew has handed him a brief to push on and challenge the first-team strikeforce at St James' Park in the final nine Premier League games and make a name for himself.
He told the Evening Chronicle: "When Andy (Carroll) left it meant everybody went up the pecking order slightly.
"Hopefully I will get my chance now.
"I need to prove myself and score a few goals, but we will have to see what happens.
"Andy did well and came up through ranks and scored many goals.
"Hopefully I can try to follow in his footsteps."
