Newcastle United are offering David O'Leary a return to football.

The Sun says O'Leary last night offered to help steady the ship at Newcastle.

Toon managing director Derek Llambias has been told to seek out bosses willing to take temporary charge while takeover searches continue.

O'Leary, invited by pal Llambias to the Arsenal clash, has been out of work since leaving Aston Villa two years ago.

And a close pal of the Irishman said: "David is desperate to get back into football and would jump at the chance."
