Sheffield Wednesday defender Tom Lees is a target for Newcastle United and Norwich City.

The Mirror says Steve McClaren and Alex Neil are in a £7million fight for Sheffield Wednesday centre-back Lees.

Newcastle boss McClaren and Norwich chief Neil have made Lees a top target in January.

Lees — a £350,000 signing from Yorkshire rivals Leeds 15 months ago — has become one of the most sought-after defenders outside the Premier League with a series of consistently high-quality performances.

Aston Villa and Sunderland are also monitoring the former England Under-21 international, who has cemented himself as a key player in Wednesday's push for the play-offs.

Neil plans to tempt the Owls by offering them Michael Turner in a player plus cash exchange deal.
