Jetro Willems has rejected a new contract offer from Eintracht Frankfurt.
The wing-back has fully recovered from a knee injury suffered last year while on-loan with Newcastle United and was offered new terms by Eintracht Frankfurt.
But the Dutchman has revealed he's turned down the proposal.
“It was a tough decision," he explained, quoted by Voetbalzone. "Also because the club offered me a contract extension in January and I did not accept it due to various factors and circumstances. One of the main reasons is that I feel that I am ready for a new challenge."
Willems never made an appearance for Eintracht Frankfurt this season as he recovered from knee surgery. The 27 year-old's last piece of action was seen the previous season with Newcastle before he broke down mid-term.
With the Magpies under manager Steve Bruce, the Holland international played 20 games, scoring twice and producing three assists. Willems proved himself a cult hero amongst the Toon support for his whole-hearted performances and also his interaction with fans.
A return to Newcastle has been mooted for Willems, who is now available as a free agent.
