Newcastle United must cough up big to land Bolton Wanderers midfielder Mark Davies.
The Evening Chronicle says Toon boss Alan Pardew first made an enquiry about Davies in January, which was knocked back by Bolton, and he is expected to make a second and more serious bid for the talented midfielder during this transfer window as he attempts to build up his first-team squad.
Newcastle were looking at paying a fee of £3.5m for the 24-year-old, who is understood to be keen on a move to St James's Park, especially now he faces at least a year in the Championship following his club going down on the final day of the season.
But they may now have to dig deeper to get their man.
