Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey was demoted to play for the Magpies U23 side against Norwich on Monday night.

Shelvey captained the U23 side on the night as they claimed a 2-2 draw against the Canaries.

The 25-year-old picked up a straight red in the opening-day defeat to Tottenham, and he returned to Magpies squad for the Swansea game after serving his suspension.

However, he failed to make an appearance from the bench as the Magpies registered a 1-0 away win on Sunday.
