Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer says this season will be remembered for yesterday's derby humiliation by Sunderland.
Shearer wrote in The Sun: "I'm no historian but I can't remember a more one-sided derby where Newcastle got stuffed like that.
"Overall, it hasn't been a very good season.
"The Europa League kept up everyone's hopes but the reality is they haven't progressed from last year.
"And that is another problem. That is what Newcastle's season will be remembered for - the defeat to Sunderland.
"You have to go through the rest of the season, the summer and pre-season until the next derby. Then you have to win - and only then is it out of your system.
"For 52,000 fans, the players and the manager it will stick in the throat for a long time."
