Newcastle legend Shearer: Man Utd's Rooney at career crossroads

Newcastle United and England legend Alan Shearer believes Manchester United star Wayne Rooney is at a career crossroads. Writing in The Sun, Shearer opined: "Rooney should be entering the peak years of his career.

"Instead he appears to be at a crossroads rather than golden track to further glory.

"Question marks over his fitness, rumours of discontent between himself and the manager - and now the arrival of Robin van Persie and Shinji Kagawa.

"Another poor tournament with England in the summer left us wondering whether the 26-year-old would ever grace the biggest international stages again.

"This morning he is recovering from a badly gashed leg which will keep him out of action for up to two months.<> "In that time he will have plenty to ponder."
