Newcastle keeper Karius casts doubt on staying

Newcastle United backup keeper Loris Karius is not ruling out staying at the club.

The shot stopper, who started the Carabao Cup final on Sunday against Manchester United, was expected to leave at the end of the season.

The suspension of Nick Pope and ineligibility of Martin Dubravka meant that Karius had to play in goal for the 2-0 loss.

"Well if we would have won the cup, it would have been a great story," Karius told reporters after the game.

“But unfortunately it's not the dream ending, but who knows? Maybe we will be here again next year with Newcastle. Maybe I'll play another one.

"You never know football. I think the last week showed me again in football, everything is possible - up and down. So who knows, I'm not writing anything off - hopefully the story will have a very good ending one day."

On his future, Karius added: "It's until the summer and we will see, we will sit together, but there is no need for it at this moment."
