Newcastle United goalkeeper coach Simon Smith admits losing Chris Terpcou to Arsenal is a blow.

The Under-23 goalie specialist will hook up with former Toon coach Andy Woodman at Arsenal after spending almost a decade on Tyneside and helping the club's young keepers flourish.

Smith took to social media and said: “As reported, my 'assistant' Chris Terpcou is leaving Newcastle United to join up with my predecessor at NUFC, Andy Woodman at Arsenal.

“Chris Terpcou is a fantastic guy, excellent coach and the best 'assistant' I've had!

“I wish him well in his new venture."
