Gold Coast United have been beaten for the first time this season, going down to Newcastle Jets 1-0. Newcastle Jets: 1 (Sean Rooney '40) Gold Coast United: 0
Venue: EnergyAustralia Stadium
In the 40th minute, Gold Coast found themselves in an unusual position when Newcastle's Sean Rooney worked his way into the area after a pass from midfielder Jin-Hyung Song and smashed his left-foot shot past Scott Higgins to put the Jets up 1-0 and open his A-League account.
The home side were able to hold onto their lead for the remainder of the match, to grab a valuable three points against the previously undefeated United outfit.
The win puts the Jets third on the table whilst Gold Coast remain on top with second-placed Sydney still to play Wellington today.
