Nolberto Solano has been arrested in Newcastle on suspicion of rape after allegations by a 22-year-old woman, reports the Daily Mail.
Police arrested the Leicester City and former Newcastle United player in the early hours of Monday in the Gosforth area of the city.
Northumbria Police said inquiries were ongoing and that Solano had been released on bail.
The Peruvian international spent eight years at St James' Park over two separate spells, and has also appeared in the Premier League for Aston Villa and West Ham.
He completed his move to Championship play-off hopefuls Leicester City in January.
