Newcastle United face competition from Arsenal for Rosenborg starlet Per Ciljan Skjelbred.

Skjelbred was expected to move to Newcastle at the end of this season after coming close to joining the Toon last summer while Kevin Keegan was in charge.

However, Norwegian sources say Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has made his interest known, while Aston Villa have also been linked this week.
