Newcastle United and Bournemouth are battling for Barnsley defender Mason Holgate.
The Daily Mail says Bournemouth are to hold talks with the versatile 18-year-old defender over a £1m move, but the Magpies and Everton have also made offers this summer, and will rival Eddie Howe's side for his signature.
Despite his young age, Holgate made 22 appearances last season and has been tipped to follow in the footsteps of former Barnsley defender John Stones in being a Premier League success.
Steve McClaren's Newcastle have already added Ivan Toney to the youth ranks this summer, and it is likely that if they pursued their interest in Holgate he too would join the Under 21s squad.
