Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew says his club has not made a bid for Liverpool winger Stewart Downing.
There have been reports of a £5million offer from the Toon for the 29-year old but Pardew has distanced his club from the speculation.
"I'm a little bit surprised because there was no enquiry from us," Pardew told reporters.
"We certainly haven't made any moves towards Stewart. He's a fine player and a Liverpool player."
