Newcastle director Staveley offers full public support to Howe

Newcastle United co-owner Amanda Staveley has spoken about the mess they inherited in 2021.

The Magpies are now owned by the Saudi Arabian royal family, with Staveley the front of the ownership group.

Speaking at the Bloomberg Power Players' Summit, Staveley said: "When you go in you have all the hype of trying to acquire the club. It took us four years to do that. There needed to be dramatic change. Because the club had been run in a very different format.

"We had very few commercial revenues, we had a team that was aging, we had a fanbase that was very angry. We had to take this incredible club and inject it with some life."

Staveley continued: "We have incredible partners and the club is majority owned by PIF and they work incredibly hard to make sure we are all very focused on our business plan. "You have to be focused on getting it right and making sure you make sensible decisions in terms of the transfer window and keep to FFP constraints. You have to try to make sure you push outside the box as that is the only way we will engage our fanbase."

The Ripon financier added: "We have an incredible coach and an incredible team. Bringing Eddie in and bringing the executive team in was really important."
