Newcastle United defender Paul Dummett has welcomed their two new signings.
Jonjo Shelvey joined United from fellow top-flight strugglers Swansea City in a £12million deal on Tuesday night, less than 24 hours after the Magpies wrapped up the acquisition of Henri Saivet from Bordeaux for a fee in the region of £4.5million.
Dummett told the Evening Chronicle: “With the two new signings who have come in, there's a new confidence that the club is willing to invest and feels that we do not belong in the position we are (currently) in."
One thing the Wales international left-back believes the new signings will bring too is added competition for places, particularly in midfield.
The 24-year-old added: “That's the positive every club needs – competition for places. If you don't have that, it can be a problem.
“The arrival of the two new lads has already given everyone a lift."
