Newcastle United are hoping to announce the signing of Kieran Trippier on Friday.
Toon have agreed to pay Atletico Madrid around £12m for the England right-back.
Trippier underwent a medical on Wednesday after signing a two-and-a-half-year contract with the option of a further year.
The 31-year-old will become the first signing under the Saudi Arabia-backed ownership.
Newcastle's owners hope to recruit at least three more players this month as they look to keep the club in the Premier League.
