Newcastle coach Pearson leaves England U21 setup

Nigel Pearson is leaving his job with the England U21s to focus fulltime on his coaching role at Newcastle United.

Pearson has been Stuart Pearce's No2, but this role will be filled by the former United left back's big sidekick from his time at Nottingham Forest and Manchester City, Steve Wigley, for tonight's friendly with Romania at Bristol's Ashton Gate.

The Evening Chronicle says while it was thought Steve Round was coming in as Sam Allardyce's assistant, this role is actually being filled by Pearson.

This has left England coach Round as United's first-team coach.
