Newcastle United reserves coach Peter Beardsley says the loan system is good for their young players.
Beardo feels loaning out players on the fringes is a major benefit to United.
And after James Tavernier's success with Gateshead was followed up by Ryan Donaldson's impressive stint at Hartlepool, the former England star told the Evening Chronicle: "They did well at Gateshead and Hartlepool.
"They got on well, and they improved as players for their time on loan." But he still feels that the young duo have plenty of work to do.
He says: "There's a lot at this level to try to improve on, whether it be in training, or matches.
"But there's a lot to look forward to."
