Newcastle boss Pardew eager for youngsters to gain experience on-loan

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew is eager for his young players to go out on-loan.

James Tavernier is enjoying an impressive spell at Gateshead currently.

"One issue I have at the football club is that young players should go out and learn their trade professionally at any club sometimes. That loan system works particularly well for that," Pardew told the Sunday Sun.

"James Tavernier has done brilliantly at Gateshead - he's a player that I keep hearing people say 'I watched him, he was brilliant'. That's great news. He might be the one that at the start of next year comes through for us out of that group.

"I want to encourage that message. I want our young players going out. Sometimes you say to a young player 'Go and play for Gateshead, go and play for Carlisle. Have a little spell playing football'. But they say 'No gaffer, my agent thinks I'm better than that'. They think they can get a League One club or a Championship club and its about understanding it.

"We need to understand that they can go into an environment where they can improve. And the manager of Gateshead and the boy have done terrific and I'm pleased for both."
