Newcastle boss Pardew delighted to see ex-players McDermott, Mackay enjoying success

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew is delighted seeing his former player Brian McDermott take Reading into the Premier League.

Pardew will get the chance next season to take on McDermott's Reading, surprise winners of the Championship, in the Premier League.

Pardew told the Sunday Sun: "There are a lot of my ex-players who have gone into management and are doing well, which makes me very proud.

"That's honestly great for me to see.

"Malky took Cardiff City to the League Cup Final, which was a fantastic achievement, and Brendan has been absolutely brilliant for Swansea in their first year in the Premier League.

"And then there is Brian who, for me, is probably the manager of the year for winning promotion with Reading.

"So it's been a great season for me personally."
