Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew has cooled talk of bringing Liverpool striker Andy Carroll back to the club.

Talk of Carroll returning to the club on loan was played down by the manager.

He told the Evening Chronicle: "Andy was terrific for us.

"He got a raw deal at Liverpool by the media last season.

"Where he treads the boards next season we'll wait and see."
