Newcastle United youngster Jamie Sterry made the bench for defeat to Leicester City yesterday.

After impressing in the reserves under Peter Beardsley, Sterry has been handed another chance on the bench, says the Evening Chronicle.

He appeared in the Newcastle match day squad towards the end of the last season.

The tough-tackling defender signed a new professional deal this summer and was promoted to the first team squad at the start of the season.

He has been in a number of first team squads already but is yet to make his debut.
