Newcastle United boss Kevin Keegan says new signing Sebastien Bassong, the Metz defender, is one for the future.
"We had him for a week, so we knew about him. The big thing was having him for a week. If we'd not been able to have him, we probably wouldn't have done it.
"But we had him in, saw him around the players and saw his standard. Then, having the chance to play to him, convinced me it was one we should do.
"We're improving that layer just behind the first team with players who can jump in, and he's certainly one of those.
"He's played a lot of times in the French First Division, so he's got a lot of experience for a young boy. I don't know how many Tayls (Steven Taylor) has played, but he'd be similar to him in that respect."
