Newcastle United boss Chris Hughton is seeking tough European competition in preseason.
Deportivo La Coruna claimed over the weekend that they would be taking on United on August 3, but with Newcastle still putting the finishing touches to their friendly schedule it looks like they may have jumped the gun.
"I know there are still two games to be confirmed and I have seen a list with three or four possibilities on it and they are top, top class European sides," Hughton told the Evening Chronicle.
"That is what I would like, a couple of high profile friendlies that will really test us. It is really important that we get the right opposition for the last two games.
"We go to Carlisle and then to Norwich in the early stages and I would anticipate big crowds for both those games, which will get us back into the swing of things.
"Then we would like a step up the closer we get to the start of the season."
