Newcastle boss Howe eager to deal in Karius

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe is keen to extend Loris Karius' short-term deal as soon as possible.

The German goalkeeper is now seen as the ideal backup to Nick Pope for the rest of the season.

Karius is with the Magpies squad in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia as part of their midseason preparations.

Per Chronicle Live, Karius staying until the summer would mean that Martin Dubravka is certain to remain at Manchester United.

The Magpies keeper is on loan with Man United, where he is the understudy to David de Gea.

Asked about Karius back in September, manager Howe stated: "He is a very good goalkeeper with Premier League and European experience and he will provide competition and support over an important part of the season."
