Newcastle United have been hit with a fresh injury blow that could derail their season.

The Magpies have learned that defender Sven Botman could be out for the medium term.

The 23-year-old has not played since September, but fans were hoping he would be back soon.

“Botman is unclear at the moment," said manager Eddie Howe.

“So we are going day by day with that one. There's an issue there and we're working through various options to try to diagnose the injury problem."

“Yeah, perhaps, we're still awaiting clarity on what is happening with his situation," added Howe.
