Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez have dumped Jonjo Shelvey to the U23s.

The Mirror says Shelvey has been ordered to play as an overage player in Newcastle's U23 squad against Norwich on Monday night.

Shelvey was suspended for three Premier League games, but was not recalled to the line up at Swansea because of Mikel Merino's form.

The midfielder was sent off in defeat to Tottenham.
