Newcastle United boss Sam Allardyce is keeping an eye on Brazil international Edmilson, who has announced he will not sign a new contract at Barcelona.

Newcastle had talks with Edmilson, 31, who plays in defence or as a holding midfielder, last summer but he decided to stay in Spain.

A knee operation has since sidelined him but he is due back at Christmas when Allardyce might make another move, says the People.
