Newcastle and Petrovski knock off Ulsan in Asian Champions League

Newcastle Jets scored two first-half goals to defeat Ulsan Hyundai 2-0 in their second group match of the Asian Champions League. Playing against and under strength Ulsan line-up, the Jets worked hard for their victory but managed to come away with an important three points.

Sasho Petrovski was the hero for the home side, knocking in a brilliant half-volley in the 15th minute before heading home a Fabio Vignaroli cross after winning a free-kick moments earlier.

Ante Covic was brilliant in goals for the Jets in his last game before jetting off to Sweden and the overall performance of the side impressed coach Gary van Egmond.

"It was very pleasing, obviously here at our home ground in front of our supporters," van Egmond said.

"In lieu of the fact we lost the first game it was imperative to win and the boys duly did so... it was a fantastic effort.

"We're still a little bit off (100 per cent) but overall, the fluency and the combinations between the players are getting better and better with the training and the games they have together."
