Newcastle's move for Salomon Rondon is still very much on as the Magpies entered another round of discussions with West Bromwich Albion.
As Aleksandar Mitrovic is set for a medical ahead of his proposed move to Fulham, Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez is more determined to sign Rondon.
However, West Brom might still insist on Dwight Gayle going the other way in a straight loan-swap deal or in a package with cash for the Venezuela attacker.
Speaking over the weekend, Benitez said on the club's potential transfers: "I don't know the numbers or I don't control the accounts, but I think if you do the maths we have enough money."
