Newcastle United ace Bruno Guimaraes has backed his boss Eddie Howe to become England manager one day.

Howe was linked to the post after the World Cup, when speculation raged about the future of Gareth Southgate.

While he is not in the frame for the post in the short term, as he is happy at Newcastle, Guimaraes believes he has the quality to succeed at international level.

“Eddie is a good guy, and a good manager," he told William Hill as he received his award for North East FWA Player of the Year.

“He's the best manager that I've had during my football career, so I'm so thankful for what he's teaching me and the boys.

"What he is doing at the club is amazing. He's a good guy and I'm sure one day he'll be the manager of England."
