New Villarreal coach Marcelino admits he's found a squad with rock bottom confidence.

Marcelino has returned to Villarreal this month for a second spell in charge.

He told Sport: "I have seen sadness. Sadness because a coach is leaving, because the player internally recognizes that he has not been able to help him continue with his work.

"And this sadness is accompanied by the fact that the results are not positive, which is why many negative circumstances add up. I believe that joy is an important part of work. If you have joy it is easier for you to be right.

"The reality is that the staff is confused. In a team, if there are many changes (of coaches), those changes can confuse you. It is impossible for two coaches to think and act the same, so imagine having three in four months.

"Each of us has our nuances in terms of the game and in the way of carrying out human relationships in terms of the group. Now the team needs joy and confidence, and this comes through good results. And we have to ask ourselves what we have to do on the field of play for those results to occur."
