New Fiorentina fullback Dodo admits he spoke with Roberto de Zerbi ahead of leaving Shakhtar Donetsk for Florence.

Dodo played for De Zerbi at Shakhtar last season.

He said at his presentation on Thursday: "Fiorentina are the team that have tried the most and have had confidence in my qualities. I think it is the best choice for me and my family.

"De Zerbi advised me to come here because the team is strong and the coach is very prepared. I only worked with De Zerbi for 7 months but his support was important and I see similarities with the Italian game

"I have already played against intense teams like Inter and Atalanta and I am aware that in Italy the most important aspect for a defender is the marking. When we challenged Real Madrid I spoke to Roberto Carlos, who gave me some advice."
