New Arsenal academy boss Jonker could lure Man Utd target van Gaal

Holland national team manager Louis van Gaal is now being linked with Arsenal according to reports emanating in his homeland.

It is believed that 62-year old van Gaal, who is the prime target for Manchester United, has now emerged on the radar of the Gunners.

Voetbal Primeur reports that Arsenal are 'now an option' for van Gaal who could replace Arsene Wenger if the Frenchman does not pen a new contract.

The link has been made more pertinent following Arsenal's appointment of Andries Jonker as their new Head of Youth Development which begins at the culmination of the current season.

Jonker worked with van Gaal when the Dutchman was in charge at both Barcelona and Bayern Munich before moving to Wolfsburg to become Dieter Hecking's number two in 2012.

He has a very close working relationship with van Gaal and it has been suggested that the duo could again work together at the Emirates Stadium.

However, Tuesday's sacking of David Moyes has opened the door to a possible shift to Old Trafford for van Gaal once he completes his duties with the Dutch side at this summer's World Cup in Brazil.
