Neville on Man Utd title collapse: MADNESS!

Manchester United legend Gary Neville was shocked by their collapse against Everton on Sunday.

Former United defender turned Sky Sports TV pundit Gary Neville branded his old club's late collapse against Everton "madness" and admitted he was shocked at their failure to close the game out when leading 4-2 with seven minutes to go.

"What will the players be thinking?" said Neville. "They'll be thinking it's madness, being 3-1 and 4-2 up [and only drawing].

"There were too many spaces. You just always felt that there were spaces through that midfield when Everton were on the counter-attack.

"At 4-2, you were thinking, 'Now close the game out' - that's what you'd expect those experienced players to be thinking out on the pitch.

"Yet they [United] were still attacking and still had a cavalier approach to the game. Then it was back at 4-3. And as soon as it was 4-3 you knew it was going to be 4-4.

"When you're playing games like that, you need to stop the momentum and say, 'Right, let's shut up shop'.

"United will be deflated because from being eight points clear [of City] two weeks ago, to being three [clear] now, they will think, 'we're making this difficult for ourselves'.

"But they will have to pick themselves up, because it's a blockbuster next Monday. Maybe it was the way this season was always designed. Maybe it was always going to be."
