Napoli coach Spalletti on Monza defeat: Petagna played well

Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti says there's no excuses after defeat to Monza on Sunday.

Spalletti was asked if motivation was an issue for the title winners.

He said, "If you lose so many balls and play dirty, you can lose. We lost the game regardless of who took the field, that has nothing to do with it. In the second half we weren't even lucky but at that point the match had taken a complicated turn.

"I got angry about looking for space and our defensive tactics. Monza attack well and defend themselves just as well and we made the wrong choices to put them in difficulty.

"If they are satisfied they become presumptuous and presumptuousness takes away any possibility of growth, it cuts the wings of whatever one wants to do.

"Monza let us find a nice welcome sign, they are a good team that plays well. They build well and do the same in the non-possession phase. Congratulations to Petagna, he scored a great goal and made life difficult for us.

"And he was good at taking the ball on himself, cleaning up, getting the team up. Scoring a level goal, but he's a great footballer."
