Naismith backing Rangers fans to continue support

Steven Naismith is full of belief that the loyal supporters of Rangers FC will continue to stick by the club despite their fall into liquidation.

The Glasgow giants are facing an uncertain future after the HMRC voted against a Company Voluntary Arrangement proposal which has seen 'Gers become a newco that could even be competing in Scotland's Third Division next season.

Rangers will certainly be without European football for four years as part of their punishment for tax breaches and although Naismith admitted to 'disbelief and anger' he is confident that the support of the 'Gers people will always be evident.

"Yesterday's decision by HMRC not to accept the CVA offer, forcing the club into liquidation, was a desperately sad one for me and everyone else connected with the club," wrote Naismith in a column for SunSport.

"I see it from a supporter's point of view, an employee's point of view and as a professional footballer who is ambitious.

"There's disbelief. There's anger. There's a lot of emotion that the club you've grown up watching and one that has a 140-year history is effectively going to change forever.

"I can understand people fearing that the club could disappear into oblivion.

"But there's still a crowd there that will always follow the name of Rangers and that will always provide the club with opportunities.

"If the worst came to the worst, if the club ended up losing a lot of players and was sent down to the Third Division, they'd still be there, no matter what.

"As a lifelong fan myself, I certainly know I'll always be cheering for the blue jersey of Rangers."
